What is career coaching?
Career coaching provides a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space for individuals to work with a professional on their future career ambitions.
People often come to career coaching to resolve work challenges and formulate options for career development. This might include addressing barriers and work relationships, identifying personal strengths and initiating a planned career change.
The purpose of career coaching is to support individuals to recognise and use their personal resources to make career decisions and to manage their career-related issues. It can be difficult to step back and assess how to respond to existing work and career challenges. Career coaches work to create a valuable “thinking space” and a dynamic working partnership so that clients can formulate career plans.
What can I expect from coaching?
I offer a bespoke and structured coaching service tailored to each client. My job is to facilitate a collaborative partnership with my clients through listening, questioning and challenge.
How it works
The first step is a free 30-minute consultation to discuss your career issues.
If we decide to work together we will agree on the core elements of the coaching support which includes the number and frequency of sessions and whether the coaching will take place online or in person.
In our first coaching session we will work through your career-life journey to date, identifying the highs and lows, patterns and themes. This reflective session will enable us to formulate the core coaching objectives of our work.
Subsequent sessions will be specifically designed to respond to your coaching objectives. This may include using verified tools and exercises, self-assessment questionnaires and undertaking inter-sessional work.
Leaving coaching you can expect to have greater clarity on how to approach your current career challenge, supported with a deeper knowledge of your personal and external resources.
How can career coaching support me in my role?
Taking time to invest in your own development is important for your health and wellbeing as well as for achieving your career ambitions.
Career coaching can help you to identify your key strengths and skills. Creating opportunities to apply your strengths in your role will build your personal resources. The more personal resources we can develop, the more likely we can approach the demands of work with a healthy and motivated mindset.
Therefore, it makes good sense to take some time out to have a structured discussion with a professional who can help you to build your self-awareness, engage your powers of reflexivity and work with you to formulate plans leading to positive change.
Career coaching works particularly well at moments of transition or change. If you are looking to develop your career, such as gaining a promotion, moving to a new area of the business, or changing your job role entirely, then coaching is a good place to plan your next move.
